Our materials are characterised by a level of quality tailored to the requirements of each specific application.

Our materials

To produce our sheets, we process plastic raw materials.
We specialise in styrenic raw materials:
High-impact polystyrene (HIPS), ABS, ABS/PMMA, ASA, ABS/ASA, flame-retardant materials and blends.

High-impact polystyrene (HIPS)

DESCRIPTION

A lightweight material that is easy to thermoform, with good impact resistance and an attractive finish.

  • Density: 1.06 g/cm³
  • Good dimensional stability.
  • Thermoformable and easy to process
  • Suitable for printing and screen printing
  • Customisable with additives: UV, ESD, antimicrobial
  • Different finishes: gloss, matte, satin, textured
  • Customisable in a range of solid colours, metallic colours or transparent finishes
  • Virgin or recycled material
  • Anti-freon variant for adhesion to polyurethane foams

HIPS sheets are ideal for interior components and/or short-term outdoor applications such as displays and advertising signs, indoor signage, food trays and simple trays.

Production offcuts from polystyrene can be reprocessed, that is, extruded again. This is known as REGENERATED PS or RECYCLED PS. The resulting material is frequently reused to manufacture parts such as trays for transporting automotive parts, inner supports, etc.

For certain applications with more demanding specific requirements, there is a modified polystyrene raw material variant called ESCR HIPS, used for refrigerator interiors, etc.

Insulating foams for refrigerators adhere well to this type of sheet; in other words, they are compatible with foaming agents.

Cubertero HIPS

ABS

DESCRIPTION

A thermoplastic with good rigidity and impact strength. Very dimensionally stable and easy to process by painting, milling and thermoforming.

  • Customisable in colour, with distinctive stripes
  • Virgin or recycled material
  • Customisable with additives: ESD, UV, FR, antimicrobial…

APPLICATIONS

It is widely used for interior components with high impact-resistance requirements, such as machine housings and casings, as well as vehicle interior trim parts for cars, buses, caravans and motorhomes.

At PLASNOR, S.L., pallets of ABS sheets are protected with specially reinforced packaging because ABS is a hygroscopic material.

Offcuts from the manufacture of this material can be reprocessed, that is, extruded again. This is known as REGENERATED ABS or RECYCLED ABS. It is frequently reused to manufacture parts such as trays for transporting automotive parts, internal container dividers, sign bases, etc.

There are also variants whose raw materials have been modified for applications with more demanding specific requirements:

ABS/PMMA – Due to its importance within our production volume, this material deserves a dedicated section.

ABS / PMMA

DESCRIPTION

We manufacture and supply ABS/PMMA sheets: coextruded sheets with acrylic surface layers. ABS/PMMA stands out for:

  • Enhanced resistance to light, ageing and weathering, significantly improving on PSB and ABS in this area.
  • Improved resistance to many chemical agents: aliphatic hydrocarbons, non-polar solvents, acids and alkalis in aqueous solution, fats and alcohols at concentrations <30%.
  • PMMA also provides good surface resistance to water.
  • We offer two surface finishes:
    • High-gloss ABS/PMMA
    • Super-matte ABS/PMMA
  • Mechanical strength is slightly reduced, but this effect is negligible in the applications for which it is used.

APPLICATIONS

We have developed several ABS/PMMA formulations that provide an optimal solution specifically adapted to the requirements of the final application. Specifically, sheets for:

  • ABS/PMMA for sanitary applications: used for shower trays, bathtubs, hydromassage columns, small spas, etc.
  • ABS/PMMA for vehicle exteriors: used for outer body panels of caravans, electric cars, licence-free vehicles, etc.
  • ABS/PMMA for other exterior parts: signage, outdoor signs and posters, housings or covers for information posts, etc.
  • ABS/PMMA for coating wood-based panels: used in kitchen furniture, providing outstanding high gloss and improved scratch resistance. (For more detail, see the Furniture section.)

Likewise, offcuts from the manufacture of this material can be reprocessed and extruded again into certain types of parts, such as supports and bases for advertising signs.

Termo detalle brillo naranja ABS PMMA

ASA

DESCRIPTION

We manufacture and supply sheets in ASA plastic material. ASA stands out for:

  • Excellent resistance to ageing and weathering: light, heat and oxygen.
  • Mechanical strength, modulus of elasticity and hardness similar to ABS.
  • Good resistance to temperature variations, suitable for use between -45°C and 95°C.
  • Good resistance to saturated hydrocarbons, mineral oils and grease, aqueous salt solutions, and diluted acids and alkalis.
  • This material is commonly coextruded with ABS to produce ABS/ASA sheets.

APPLICATIONS

This material is used to manufacture parts intended for long-term outdoor use: lawnmower housings, agricultural machinery housings, garden furniture, traffic-light housings, etc.

ASA

Flame-retardant (self-extinguishing) materials and some blends:

DESCRIPTION

In certain types of applications, such as parts for public spaces and means of transport, materials with improved fire behaviour are required. These are known as flame-retardant or fire-resistant materials. At PLASNOR, we manufacture several types of sheets with flame-retardant materials in different grades, depending on the applicable standards and the intended application or part:

  • SELF-EXTINGUISHING PS: Used in computer housings, decorative elements in public spaces, etc.
  • ABS R118: We extrude certified sheet for the R118 standard, specifically annexes 6, 7 and 8. It is used, for example, in interior bus components.
  • SELF-EXTINGUISHING ABS: Used, for example, to manufacture oil collectors for wind turbines and thermoformed parts intended for public spaces.
  • SELF-EXTINGUISHING ABS/PC: Used, for example, to manufacture transport trays for foundry components.
  • SELF-EXTINGUISHING ASA/PC: Used, for example, for tractor engine housings or outdoor vehicle housings.

PS / PE

DESCRIPTION

We manufacture and supply sheets with a PS/PE blend. This material combination provides the sheet with significant improvements in terms of:

  • Very high impact resistance, even greater than ABS.
  • Excellent resistance to fats, oils and many chemical agents
  • Compatibility with foaming agents.
  • Flexibility
  • Ease of processing is maintained.

APPLICATIONS

Thanks to these characteristics, they are used for tractor panels, internal refrigerator liners, trays for margarines and fatty products, mudguards for licence-free vehicles, etc.

Offcuts from the manufacture of this material can be reprocessed, that is, extruded again in the same way as the previous ones.

Termo Sanitario PS PE

ABS / PC

DESCRIPTION

We manufacture and supply sheets with an ABS/PC blend. This material combination provides the sheet with significant improvements in characteristics such as:

  • Very high impact resistance, greater than PS/PE
  • High temperature resistance, greater than ABS
  • Excellent mechanical properties even at low temperatures.
  • High rigidity with low overall shrinkage

APPLICATIONS

This type of sheet is used to manufacture technical thermoformed parts when high impact and temperature resistance are required.

Offcuts from the manufacture of this material can be reprocessed, that is, extruded again in the same way as the previous ones.

Material recycling

All thermoplastic materials extruded at PLASNOR, S.L. are recyclable. After first being transformed into products such as sheets, rolls or parts, production offcuts remain at our facilities. These are collected and enter a second reuse phase.

With the clear goal of making the most of production offcuts and minimising raw material consumption, we work as follows:

  • We invest in increasingly efficient machinery with lower raw material consumption.
  • We optimise processes and organisational methods to maximise reuse.
  • We collect leftover plastic offcuts from the different manufacturing processes separately for each material type.
  • We grind them into granules and store them appropriately.
  • We incorporate the ground material into a new extrusion process to manufacture new sheets and rolls.

We have recycling solutions for all the thermoplastics we work with. Due to customer demand, we usually have wide availability of recycled materials such as:

  • RECYCLED PS
  • RECYCLED ABS
  • RECYCLED ABS WITH PMMA TRACES
